Welcome to our Charlotte & Lime Wall Art Prints blog. The children nowadays spend a lot of time watching the screens. Wouldn't it be great when we could go back to the days when we could use more of our hands to create something truly delightful, and something the children could be proud of? Let's dive in and have fun!
Finger Painting Fun

Materials:
non-toxic finger paints
large sheets of drawing paper
old clothes/painting aprons (try to minimise the mess)
What to do:
a) Pour different colours of finger paints onto small plates
b) Let the children dip their dingers into the paint and draw onto the paper
c) You draw alongside them to create a masterpiece together
Language Skills Builder: describe what you and the children are doing, e.g. "I'm painting a red dinosaur."
2. Squirt Gun Painting

In the lovely warmer months, go outside as much as possible to soak up the sun. That's what we do here in the UK (trying not think about the winter now!).
Fireflies and Mud Pies has come up with such a fun activity for the summer!
Materials:
Water guns
Watercolour paper (thicker paper e.g. 300gms would be better)
Liquid watercolour
Easel
What to do:
a) Clip the watercolour paper onto the easel in the garden/patio
b) Let the children choose their own colours, use contrasting colours would create a striking effect
Language Skills Builder: ask where the children want to squirt to practise describing the positions, e.g. "I want to squirt at the bottom of the paper."
3. Chalk Drawing

We're going outside again! This activity we aim to develop their story telling skills at the same time.
Materials:
Giant Chalks (great for little hands and they don't get broken easily)
A safe place to draw
What to do:
a) Find a safe place where the children can freely explode their artistic skills
b) Can make up a short story by taking turns to draw
c) Take a photo of the final masterpiece before it is washed away
Language Skills Builder: build up their imagination and story telling skills, e.g. you draw a girl and say, "There was a little girl", then your child may draw a cupcake and say, "and one day she ate 10 cupcakes in one go...."
4. Magazine Cut Outs Collage

Materials:
Old Magazines
Scissors for kids
Drawing paper
Glue sticks
What to do:
a) Let the children cut out any pictures/letters/words that they find interesting
b) Place them onto the paper to make a nice design before sticking them one by one using the glue stick
c) Can find letters and form the children's names
Language Skills Builder: ask your child to give a reason why he/she like about another person's art work
5. Play Dough

This is just one of the most loved activities by the children. Buy the big brand dough but if you have some extra time (not very likely!), you could make your own play dough!
Materials:
A few tubs of play dough
What to do:
a) Set a theme, e.g. animals/plants/transports/food etc.
b) Take the play dough out and let your imagination lead you
c) Model how to mould the dough into different shapes and form the objects you want
Language Skills Builder: model different verbs while doing the actions, e.g. "I'm rolling/cutting/flattening the play dough".
